High-powered Sports Decision Makers panel will look at new ways of structuring sponsorship deals

Senior executives from Fenway Sports Management, BSE Global and Citizens Bank will take a deep dive into the sometimes-opaque world of sponsorship deals during a session set to be to be among the highlights of the inaugural Sports Decision Makers Summit in Miami on May 6 and 7.

Mark Lev, president of Fenway Sports Management, will be joined by BSE Global chief revenue officer Michael Zavodsky and Sean Sullivan, director of sponsorships at Citizens Bank, on a panel that will look at the pressure for change in the way deals are structured, valued and paid-for as the sector evolves alongside the technology and media on which it relies.

The session follows a keynote address by Eelco van der Noll, head of partnerships & experiential marketing at Anheuser-Busch InBev and one of the most influential people in global sponsorship.

As president of FSM, Mark Lev brings 25 years’ experience of the industry to the day-to-day operations of the company. He has been intimately involved with many of FSM’s major business dealings, including its unique partnership with NBA superstar LeBron James. He has been an integral part in bringing many major special events to Fenway Park and in securing high profile sponsorship deals for Fenway Sports Group-owned properties, including Warrior Sports’ then record-setting kit deal with Liverpool Football Club.

Michael Zavodsky has risen quickly through the ranks within the BSE Global organization.  As CRO he oversees the ticketing, suites, sponsorship sales, and partnership marketing departments for all of BSE’s venues and businesses, including Barclays Center and the Brooklyn Nets.

As vice-president, director of sponsorships for Citizens Bank, Sean Sullivan implemented the first consistent, quantitative approach to evaluating the bank’s sponsorships to ensure they are achieving business and marketing goals and supporting the community. He oversees a large portfolio including Citizens Bank Park, the Detroit Grand Prix and an extensive partnership with Live Nation. Sean started his sports career with the New York Yankees, where he worked directly for George Steinbrenner.

Impact of esports under the microscope at Sports Decision Makers Summit Miami

The impact of esports on the global sports economy comes under the spotlight at the inaugural Sports Decision Makers Summit in Miami on May 6 and 7, during an expert panel featuring Electronic Sports Group founder Bobby Sharma, Tyler Schrodt, chief executive of the Electronic Gaming Federation and Vlad Marinescu, president of the US eSports Federation.

Bobby Sharma brings a broad perspective to the discussion. Vlad Marinescu comes from a traditional sports background as a martial artist. A US champion in karate, he has also spent more than a decade with the International Judo Federation. Today he focuses on applying best practices from traditional sport organisations to esports, with the target of protecting athletes.

Tyler Schrodt leads the Electronic Gaming Federation, the leading provider of amateur esports leagues to high school and collegiate students in the US. EGF operates high school leagues in 13 states across the country and is building the definitive varsity league for Division 1 colleges and universities, particularly those universities in the traditional Power 5 conferences.

Three more senior executives whose decisions shape the business of sport in the United States and beyond have been confirmed as speakers at the inaugural Sports Decision Makers Summit in Miami on May 6 and 7.

Al Guido, president of the San Francisco 49ers; Mark Lev, president of Fenway Sports Management; and Mike Zavodsky, chief revenue officer of BSE Global – owners of the Brooklyn Nets – join a stellar speaker line-up at the conference, conceived and organised by SportBusiness and Sportel for owners and C-suite executives.

Al Guido oversees all key business initiatives for the NFL’s 49ers and is chief executive of Elevate Sports Ventures. Guido led the sales team that made the 49ers’ Levi’s Stadium a reality and, under his leadership, it has become established as a 360-degree entertainment venue.

James Pallotta, the co-owner and chairman of Serie A team AS Roma and co-owner of the NBA’S Boston Celtics, has joined the ever-growing line-up of global sports leaders confirmed as keynote speakers at the inaugural Sports Decision Makers Summit at the W Hotel, Miami Beach, on May 6 and 7.

Pallotta, whose wide-ranging sports interests also include the Fnatic e-sports organisation, adds his unique perspective on the global sports business to a programme designed to deliver high-value data, insight and intelligence to the world’s leading sports investors, owners and C-suite executives.

Joining Pallotta as a keynote speaker is Terrence Burns, executive vice-president for global sport at Engine Shop and Xavier O’Callaghan who leads FC Barcelona’s commercial operations in the Americas.

Terrence Burns is one of the world’s most experienced sports marketers and event bidding specialists. He has been at the coal-face of Olympic sponsorship from the sponsor and property side, having led Delta Airlines’ sponsorship of the 1996 Atlanta Games before co-founding the IOC’s in-house agency.  He has also worked with a variety of Olympic clients around the world including five winning Olympic bid campaigns and was the brand strategist for Russia’s successful 2018 FIFA World Cup bid.

Eelco van der Noll has 20 years’ experience in global marketing. He was marketing director at Fifa (2004-2007), world football’s governing body, and held senior marketing positions at leading global brands including MasterCard (1995-2003) and Canon (1990-1994).
